We finally got the first ever teaser trailer for Power Rangers today, ahead of it’s NYCC panel. Let’s take a look and then go over everything we know about the movie so far!
The Movie

Power Rangers, set to release March 24, 2017, is a reboot of the classic 90s television show, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. This movie will not be apart of the ongoing Power Rangers television universe, but a new, standalone franchise. The film will be directed by Dean Israelite and distributed by Saban Films and Lionsgate Films.
The Actors
Let’s start off with the people portraying the roles!

The core team of Rangers will be made up of mostly unknown, up-and-comers.
Dacre Montgomery as Jason aka the Red Ranger
RJ Cyler as Billy aka the Blue Ranger
Naomi Scott as Kimberly aka the Pink Ranger
Ludi Lin as Zack aka the Black Ranger
Becky Gomez as Trini aka the Yellow Ranger
So far, the rest of the main cast has been well-known actors, with Lionsgate seeking out some serious talent.
Bryan Cranston as Zordon, the Rangers’ mentor who in the show, gave them their powers
Bill Hader as Alpha 5, Zordon’s robotic assitant
Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, the main villain of the Power Rangers story

Rita is the only one of the three that we have gotten a look at so far, with Zordon and Alpha 5 largely being a mystery. With Rita’s drastic departure from the series, it will be interesting to see how the other two will be realized on screen. Another major character from the show, Goldar, Rita’s main henchman, was confirmed to be appearing in the movie at NYCC, no word on who or how he will be portrayed yet.
The Tech

This new movie will be a reboot for the Mighty Morhpin’ franchise in most aspects. The new film looks to put a much more superhero and sci-fi edge into the Ranger formula.

The new suits are far closer to that of Iron Man than they are to the classic spandex and plastic. When asked about the suits, the creators mentioned how they wanted them to appear alien. These suits will crystalize around each ranger to form a much more modern version of the costumes than we are accustomed to. These suits are not from earth and they wanted that to come across in their designs.

While the suits will be assisted by CGI elements, the actors will be wearing the actual costumes when you see them in the movie.

While all we’ve gotten of the Zords are teaser posters, there is a very clear difference between these machines and the blocky, toy inspired Zords of the olden days. The Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Pterodactyl, Mastodon and Saber-Toothed Tiger appear to resemble Transformers in their execution, with each Zord color coordinated to their respective ranger. We have yet to even get a teaser of the fully formed Megazord, which combines all five Zords into one robotic fighter.
The final bit of info before today was the first weapon revealed for the Rangers, the Red Ranger’s Power Sword.
