Ubisoft has announced a new major crossover game for the Nintendo Switch with Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

Ubisoft started their presentation off strong by having Miyamoto himself join the stage to announce the new game. Being a crossover between the Mario franchise and Rabbids from Rayman, the game looks like it will be a lot of fun.

In the announcement trailer we get to see that the game will take place in a new world filled with Rabbids taking on the effects of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi are all playable characters in the game as well as a Rabbid dressed as each character making for a total of 8 playable characters in game. The gameplay has been compared very closely to X-com as you control the characters in turn based fashion on a square shaped board taking out all enemies.

“This is the story of an unexpected encounter between Mario and the irreverent Rabbids. The Mushroom Kingdom has been torn apart by a mysterious vortex, transporting the Rabbids into the once-peaceful area, splintering this beloved land. To bring order back to the Kingdom, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi team up with Rabbids heroes in a journey through four different worlds.
Join these eight heroes to explore a new world twisted by the mischievous Rabbids, filled with secrets and nods to classic Mario games! Outwit unpredictable enemies in dynamic turn-based combat and co-op challenges, and solve puzzles along the way. Discover a feel-good and modern combat adventure designed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch™ system, playable anywhere, anytime, with anyone.”

Ubisoft has also uploaded a behind the scenes video to YouTube following the development team and some fun facts about the game.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is releasing August 29 2017 for the Nintendo Switch.
