After rumors over the weekend that Final Fantasy XV was going to be delayed to November 29, 2016, Hajime Tabata, Director of Final Fantasy XV, confirmed the delay earlier in the day. In a short video announcement on Square’s Youtube page, Tabata confirmed that the new release date will be November 29. The game is delayed because they wanted to implement the day-one patch on the disc so that when the game launches, everyone can experience the game how it was meant to be played. Since some gamers do not have internet, Tabata wanted to include the patch on the disc so that everyone could have the same game as everybody else. Included in the patch will be extra content that is vital to the experience plus any fixes for the game. Tabata also confirmed that those who do have an internet connection will get future content added regularly as DLC.

Tabata did confirm, however, that the game is in its “master” state which means that it is 100% finished and can played from beginning to end. The delay was only to implement that patch onto the disc. The final version of Final Fantasy XV will be shown off at Gamescom this week and Square Enix will release a 30-minute preview of the game running and will also have a playable demo on the game floor.

Tabata left a final message to his fans stating that, “From the moment we joined this project, our vision was to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series. Regrettably, we need a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this.

As the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want Final Fantasy XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.”

Final Fantasy XV will release on November 29, 2016 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Come back throughout the week to hear the latest news on Final Fantasy XV at Gamescom.
